Local Chickens

Ugandan local chickens, also known as “Kuroiler” or “Uganda’s indigenous chickens,” are a hardy and resilient breed adapted to the local environment. They are well-suited to the tropical climate and are known for their ability to forage and thrive in free-range systems. These chickens typically have a smaller body size compared to commercial breeds but are highly valued for their meat, eggs, and adaptability to varying environmental conditions. They have a wide range of plumage colors, and their eggs are often smaller but highly nutritious. Additionally, local chickens are an important part of Uganda’s agricultural economy, providing food security and income to many rural families.
